What the Bible says

How to Have Peace with God

  1. Step one

    Why do I need salvation?

All men and women sin. Man's sin brought death to the world. Every person is born into this world with a sin nature and an inherent tendency to sin.

The Bible says that you desperately need to be saved because you are unrighteous (Romans 3:10-12), have a corrupt nature (Isaiah 64:6), and are a slave to sin (John 8:34). You are separated from God because of your wickedness. Since the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), you are subject to both physical death and spiritual death.

Without salvation, you are headed for the second death: eternal separation from God in the lake of fire.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:14-15)

  2. Step two

    There is hope for you!

Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross, where God poured out all His judgment against sin upon Him.

Jesus rose bodily from the grave and ascended into heaven in victory over sin and death! On the cross, God laid all of your sin upon His Son. He suffered to pay your debt. You can only be saved through His work, not by any of your own works.

To be saved means to be rescued from God's wrath and from eternity separated from God in the Lake of Fire. You must believe that He died for you, paid the price for your sin, and is your only way to heaven.

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh.” (1 Timothy 3:16)

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

“For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14)

  3. Step three

What must I do to be saved?

To be saved you must place your faith in Jesus Christ. Saving faith involves two things: repentance and faith.

Repentance means to agree with God that you are just as bad as the Bible says, that you are headed for hell and that you deserve it for your sins. Repentance is turning from your sins and submitting unconditionally to God as your Lord.

Faith means trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ alone to save. You cannot believe in Jesus and in your own good works or religious rituals at the same time. Saving faith is also not merely mental agreement with facts.

You must come to a specific point in your life where you see yourself as a lost, helpless sinner, you turn from your sins, and you trust solely in the Lord Jesus for eternal life!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

  4. Step four

Can I know for certain I am saved?

God gives assurance, not doubt, to those who have truly submitted to Him. If you repent and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, He will keep you saved. No one who has ever truly believed in Him can perish (Romans 8:28-39).

Ask yourself honestly: Have you received God's Word? Do you have the fruit of the Spirit? Do you know God?

If you will humble yourself today and believe in Him, He promises you everlasting life in heaven, and a holy life on this earth, freed from the bondage of sin. The matter is urgent. You are not guaranteed tomorrow!

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” (1 John 2:3)

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.” (Hebrews 10:22)
